Mexican Street Food on Dia de los Muertos

Luardo's - Mexican Street Food

Today is apparently Dia de los Muertos in Mexico, otherwise known as Day of the Dead. It’s a day where families remember those who have died in the previous year and pay their respects – one of the ways they do this is by eating their favourites foods. So today seemed liked the perfect excuse for some of my favourite food. And as coincidence would have it the ‘eat.st at Kings Cross’ street food market (which is now running for three days a week with even more traders) was today the home to Luardo’s who were serving up their wonderful burritos.

With easily one of the best looking food trucks in London (two actually with the recent addition of their second – called Mary!), Luardo’s has a reputation for serving up great taco’s and burrito’s and more recently even fish tacos. But today’s menu was purely burritos with a choice between the traditional beef or chicken, but also with a very tempting sounding chorizo and pumpkin combination. However as this was my first visit to Luardo’s I had to go with my normal burrito order (chicken) to see how it matched up.

And what a fantastic burrito it was. Definitely not the easiest thing to eat (probably could have been wrapped a little tighter) with a few bits escaping here and there, but I didn’t really care because it tasted so good! The meat was really juicy, not a dry bit in sight, a great salsa with the right amount of heat, the perfect amount of sour cream, beans and lettuce. I also had a little taste of the beef and it was just as good – if not even better. And at just £5 or less, exactly what street food should be. For me it was easily up there with my favourite London burritos.

As well as being a regular visitor to Kings Cross, Luardo’s can be found at their regular spot on Whitecross Street market weekdays 11am-3pm. They also do a lot of the London festivals and markets, so be sure to follow them on Twitter (@luardos) to get up to date location info.

Will definitely be back again, want to try the fish tacos sometime (even though I don’t really like fish)

Fish Tacos are the best thing EVER… though I’m not sure how that works if you don’t like fish. Either way we’ll be makin em here http://www.insaland.com/blog/london-showing-of-girls-on-bikes/ and will try and fit in some flank steak and chimmichurri numbers as well for the “haters”. Come along!
