Is London’s best Pizza served on the street?

In London the street food scene is pretty impressive at the moment, there’s a lot of people out there serving up great tasting food at really great prices. Even with the quality food that’s out there, occasionally I still get surprised with just how good some of the food really is. And earlier this week when I was down at ‘eat.st at Kings Cross’ I was blown away by a seemingly simple slice of margherita pizza from Homeslice.

Homeslice are relative newcomers to the whole street food thing, having only started around August/September this year. Run by three guys with a passion for pizza, they can be found around London with their own custom built wood-fired pizza oven – which looks pretty impressive on the side of the road!

Of course, having a proper pizza oven is no good if you don’t know what you’re doing. But there’s no questioning these guys’ skills – their pizza was one of the best i’ve ever had! They were serving up three different pizzas this week – a serano stilton and walnut, a zucchini, artichoke and garlic, and the margherita that I went for.

It might have been the most basic of three offerings, but it was packed with flavour from the sweet tomato sauce, mozarella cheese and basil. And the base was pretty much perfect – little bit of charring, nice and thin and a wonderful flavour that only comes from a proper pizza oven.

And I have to mention the price because for the quality of the product, they offer great value at just £3 a slice, or two for £5. You can even buy yourself a whole pizza for £8.50 which is cheaper than most places on the high street and tastes a whole lot better!

Homeslice (@homesliceldn on Twitter) are taking part in the ‘eat.st at Kings Cross’ street food market so you can catch them there (check the website for their specific dates) or alternatively they are now going to be Saturday regulars at Netil Markey in Hackney (joining the increasingly popular Lucky Chip and their burgers).
