A Fond Farewell to Choc Star

Choc Star

Sad news…this weekend the London street food stalwart Choc Star will be shutting up shop. After one final weekend at the Southbank’s Real Food Festival the chocolate van (known as Jimmy and run by Eat Street’s Petra Barran) will be driving off into the sunset.

Choc Star

I was down on the Southbank this past weekend for the always fun Chocolate festival so of course I had to visit for a bit of chocolate indulgence while I still had the chance. And given how cold it was there was nothing better than a cup of Petra’s spiced hot chocolate and a gooey chocolate brownie. The brownies, with a hint of coffee, are easily one of my favourites and it’ll be a real shame not to be able to get them anymore. Luckily the recipe can be found in the Street Food Revolution book by Richard Johnson and its one of the few things I can actually bake without screwing up.

So if you’ve got a sweet tooth why not head down to the Southbank this weekend and treat yourself to a brownie, hot chocolate, brownie fudge sundae or any of the other chocolate indulgences on offer and help give Choc Star a proper send off.

With Choc Star shutting up shop Petra will be focusing on Eat.St and driving London street food forward, and if Eat.St at Kings Cross is anything to go by London’s street food scene could be an exciting place in 2012.
